Thinking of a 40 gallon long planted tank

Post by xxUnRaTeDxxRKOxx on Thu 28 Jul - 20:47

So I'm looking into possibly doing a 40 gallon long (48"x13"x16") planted setup, the tank has almost the exact same measurements as a 55 gallon tank but is 5" shorter in height. I'd love to set it up as a short plant system, with a lot of shorter plants that don't grow past 12". I use to have a 40 gallon long complete setup a couple years ago, but I sold it to a guy, wish I still had it lol.

I may try to trade my 55 gallon setup for a 40 gallon long system, but not sure if I would trade it or just keep it. I also would love to do a 36"x12"x18" rimless tank planted setup, also known as an ADA (amano design aquarium) Tank, where everything is high quality and expensive.

Planted tanks are actually quite easy to do once you understand everything, such as lighting, filtration, co2, and dosing fertilizers. Once you begin to understand the basics to a planted tank, then it's easy to maintain a healthy planted setup.

When I started my first planted tank, I researched all the information for about 2 months straight. Once I felt like I understood everything enough, that's when I started getting the equipment ready for the system. I already had the lighting since it came with the 55 gallon tank, I just needed to start on the substrate basics, I started with a regular natural gravel, then added some API first layer pure laterite to the spots where the plants would go. I also started with a DIY co2 setup, and the tank just blossomed from there.

Back then I didn't know anything about planted substrate like SeaChem Flourite, I only knew about the pure laterite. Where as now I have all of the right equipment, lighting bulbs and fixtures, a real co2 injection system, etc....

Believe it or not, I had my first planted tank in 2008!!! I mean that was just 3 years ago lol, since then I've made sure to do all the research I can on any type setup I plan to do.

Ok I am getting confused does this mean your two nano tanks have been decided against? LOL I know the joys of planning. I do the same thing and change my mind about daily.
This last couple weeks I am even thinking about shutting down my big tanks for a while and getting myself a plant rack. Something easier to take care of while I try to care for my sister and keep my house tool. But.....
Love to see it all when you get them up and running.

4 fish tanks, 55 gallon with goldfish, Planted 6 gallon with betta and ADF, planted 29 gallon with guppies, and
75 gallon with Oscar and friends.
